Established in 1975, Talbot Rice Gallery is based in the historic Old College, designed by Robert Adam and completed by William Henry Playfair.

Part of the University of Edinburgh, the gallery collaborates with a range of departments, academics and students to produce its exhibitions.

There are three distinct exhibition spaces; a white-cube gallery devoted to contemporary art, a Georgian gallery hosting temporary shows, and a project space for emerging artists and residencies.

The Georgian gallery is particularly notable – not only for its resplendent interior – but because it was in this room where the young Charles Darwin (a medical student at the university in the 1820s) honed his passion for Natural History.
