Visit San Diego California Temple
Rising majestically beside Interstate 5, the San Diego California Temple stands as a major landmark to those traveling to or from San Diego. The temple’s unique architecture makes it one of the most distinctive temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
William S. Lewis Jr. was the design architect of the temple, and Dennis and Shelly Hyndman were the project architect and the interior design architect, respectively. The Hyndmans are Roman Catholics and have designed over a dozen Catholic churches. They had not toured a Mormon temple before receiving this assignment. Asked to find a style for the temple that was native to San Diego, Dennis Hyndman said, “We decided, what is San Diego except light, good weather and sun?”
