Visit Grant's Tomb
Visit the monolithic tomb of America's most famous general.
In New York City, walking up the steps toward Grant’s Tomb fills visitors with a sense of national pride and awe.
The tomb rises straight up 150 feet to a domed ceiling, overlooking the Hudson and regally sitting above the city, honoring and holding the remains of the 18th American president General Ulysses Grant. The Civil War general is buried in a massive sarcophagus next to his wife Julia.
Although the tomb is classical example of American beauty, a relatively recent public art initiative that took place during the tomb’s restoration has left a scattering of decorated benches around the area as well.
