Travel to Wisconsin, USA

The Dells

Known as the “Waterpark Capital of the World,” Wisconsin Dells is the antidote to seemingly endless winter days. Located in the south central portion of the state, The Dells offers a variety of high-energy indoor and outdoor activities and is consistently ranked as a top vacation destination for families. In the warmer months, unwind at the end of the day with a movie at the Big Sky Drive-in Theater or take the kids to Glockenspiel for a free re-enactment of this charming fairy tale.

Wisconsin’s capital is an affordable and enjoyable vacation destination which offers an abundance of family-friendly activities and a great variety of eclectic eats and nightlife (don’t miss State Street Brats). The Botanical Gardens and Henry Villas Zoo are free to the public and the palpable university atmosphere infuses even more energy into this City of Lakes.

Apostle Islands

The 21 islands making up the Apostle Islands off the coast of Lake Superior in La Pointe, Wisconsin, are the ultimate haven for nature lovers. In certain winter years, 2014 being one of them, visitors can take a two mile hike (round trip) to the Mainland Sea Caves to witness the singular ice formations. In summer months, stay at a nearby cabin and enjoy sea kayaking, sailing and fishing, among other activities, while enjoying some of the best views of the greatest of the Great Lakes.

Door County

Located on 300 scenic miles of the Door County peninsula, this Lake Michigan getaway has long been a favorite weekend retreat for Chicagoans and Wisconsinites. The best time of year to visit is unarguably the fall; meander through winding roads to admire the fiery hues of changing leaves or take it all in atop Old Baldy, the tallest point of Whitefish Dunes State Park. Whatever your plans, it’d be a shame to leave without trying a slice of cherry pie made from the sweet and tart local Montmorency cherries.

In recent years, Wisconsin’s largest city has experienced an aesthetic awakening, quickly earning its place among the best of the Midwest. The Milwaukee Art Museum has gained international recognition; more local breweries and award-winning coffee shops have appeared while the Milwaukee Riverwalk has expanded to include colorful art displays. The Harley-Davidson Museum and the Sea Dog Sailing Company provide even more amusement.
