It has a ‘ Pontio Arts & Innovation Centre’ which is a new social hub for students as well as a centre for learning, innovation and the performing arts. The building is a centre for innovation in science, technology and the creative arts. In addition to being a new home for its Students’ Union, it is home to a theatre, cinema, lecture theatres, exhibition spaces, bars and cafés.It has excellent sports and recreation facilities. At Bangor there are around 150 Students’ Union Clubs and Societies, covering a range of interests, activities and sports. Student membership is free – which means all students can take advantage of the extra-curricular opportunities offered. The University is rated amongst the top 55 universities in the UK, according to The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016. Bangor has been described as “one of the cheapest places in Britain” to be a student and is consistently ranked as one of the most economical places to study in the UK in various cost-of-living surveys.
It has one of the largest widening access programmes in the country called the Talent Opportunities Programme involving over 1,500 pupils in schools across North Wales. Undergraduate students can benefit from a new study abroad option to give students the international experience many employers are now looking for. The International Experience Programme gives the option of studying overseas for one extra year in a wide variety of destinations and will have ‘with international experience’ added to their degree title.
