Northwest Florida State College is part of the Florida College System, a network of 28 public state and community colleges. NWF State College offers postsecondary education opportunities to more than 17,000 students annually. Located in the coastal heart of Northwest Florida, the college has earned a reputation for education excellence and community involvement in its 50 year history. The college operates six area campuses and centers in Niceville, Fort Walton Beach, Crestview, DeFuniak Springs, South Walton County, and Hurlburt Field.

Northwest Florida State College began a year-long recognition of its 50th Anniversary on April 17, 2013 - encompassing the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the college by the Florida legislature in April 1963 through the first semester at Okaloosa-Walton Junior College (OWJC) in August, 1964. The 50th Anniversary focused on "Continuing the Vision" of improving lives through higher education - a vision that started in 1963 with OWJC and continued through the college's years of service as Okaloosa-Walton Community College (OWCC- 1988 to 2004) and Okaloosa-Walton College (OWC-2004-2008) though its current status as a state college (2008 to present).
